Multi-Location Healthcare SEO: Build Around Real Offices
A practical approach to location pages, Google Business Profiles, useful local content, and inquiry measurement for growing medical groups.
THE SHORT VERSION
- Maintain one verified source for office facts before creating more pages.
- Give each location useful content and an accurate contact route.
- Measure search visibility alongside inquiries your offices can actually serve.
When a medical group adds offices, the website and search listings need to keep up with the operating reality. A patient may find a service page, choose a nearby location, and discover that the service is only available across town.
We recommend starting multi-location SEO with a verified location record. It gives the website, search profiles, and front-office team a shared answer to a basic question: where can this person get the help they are looking for?
Establish who owns each location’s facts
Create a register of real offices, their public names, addresses, phone routes, hours, services, and relevant providers. Add the source, the person responsible for verification, and the date checked.
Give changes a simple path. When an office moves or a provider’s schedule changes, someone should know which website pages, profiles, and contact systems need an update. Assign that responsibility before expanding the publishing calendar.
This is our recommended operating model, not a ranking formula. Its value is that the team can resolve conflicting information without guessing which page is current.
Give each office a page that answers local questions
A shared page template can keep navigation and design consistent. The content inside it should reflect what someone needs to know about that particular office.
| Information | What to verify locally |
|---|---|
| Contact and hours | The right number, request route, regular hours, and approved holiday updates |
| Services | Which services are actually offered at that office and where to find details |
| Providers | Who sees patients there and where current provider information lives |
| Arrival | Accurate directions, parking, entrance details, and verified access information |
| Next step | Whether the visitor is requesting a callback, booking, or opening a patient portal |
Use authentic location photographs when available. If an image is illustrative, make its purpose clear. Have the practice approve statements about insurance, clinical care, accessibility features, and appointment availability.
Avoid creating pages by swapping a city name into otherwise identical copy. A page for a real office has a clear job. A proposed service-area page needs its own useful purpose and accurate explanation of where care takes place.
Keep Business Profiles aligned with the real organization
Review profile ownership and duplicate listings before creating new ones. Check whether each profile represents a location, an eligible department, or an individual practitioner.
Google’s guidance requires accurate real-world representation and generally limits a business to one profile per location, with separate rules for departments and practitioners. A rented mailing address where the business does not operate is not an eligible office. Practitioner eligibility depends on the actual public-facing arrangement. Google’s Business Profile guidelines.
For each appropriate profile, compare the destination website and contact route with the location register. An operations lead should be able to explain where a call or request goes. Keep access under the practice’s control and document who handles updates.
Do this review before deleting or merging a listing. First establish what it represents, who controls it, and which current patients may rely on it.
Make important information easy to find and read
Link the location directory to individual office pages. Connect relevant services and providers to those offices where the relationship is accurate. Keep addresses, hours, and service information available as readable page text, and check that important pages are accessible to search crawlers.
For Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google says existing SEO fundamentals still apply: there is no additional special schema or AI text file required for eligibility. Pages must meet its indexing and snippet eligibility requirements, and appearance is not guaranteed. Google’s guidance on AI features.
Our practical response is to publish direct, well-maintained answers to real patient questions. Explain where a service is offered and how to contact that office. If structured data is used, keep it consistent with the visible information. These steps support a coherent site; they do not promise placement in any search or AI product.
Measure whether the right offices receive useful inquiries
Establish a baseline for each location page before changing it. Track search impressions and clicks, relevant query groups, contact actions, and the inquiries the office can actually serve. Review branded searches separately from service searches so a change in brand demand does not obscure the picture.
Agree on a practical definition of a qualified inquiry: appropriate service, serviceable location, and a request staff can act on. A click on a phone link is a contact action, not proof of a booked visit. Document measurement gaps instead of filling them with estimates presented as facts.
Use approved aggregate reporting. Keep patient details out of marketing dashboards and routine campaign discussions.
Start with a manageable group of locations
Choose offices that expose different problems: a newer location with incomplete content and an established one with conflicting listings, for example. Verify their facts, improve their pages and contact routes, then review the results and remaining issues before extending the pattern.
The first deliverable should include the location register, page and profile findings, proposed corrections, owners, and a measurement baseline. That gives an operations leader something concrete to approve and maintain.
